Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Up to ½ cup beef broth or water, as needed
  • Hamburger buns, for serving

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef. Set the Ninja to Sear/Sauté on medium, or heat a large skillet. Cook the beef and onion 7–10 minutes, until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain extra grease if needed.
  2. Add the garlic. Stir in the garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Make the sauce. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and salt.
  4. Simmer. Turn down to low and simmer uncovered 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add broth or water if it gets too thick.
  5. Adjust. Taste it! Add a little more brown sugar for sweet, or mustard or vinegar for tang.
  6. Serve. Spoon onto lightly toasted buns.

Dig in and enjoy!
